“At the end of the day, if I can say I had fun, it was a good day.” – Simone Biles
Fun, you may ask, at a time like this? Yes, fun at a time like this!
I know for myself that I have a tendency to be a little too serious, always focused on health, healing and personal growth. After having spent so much time stuck in fight/flight/freeze, at one point I had completely disconnected from fun and joy entirely. But fun in and of itself is extremely healing, enjoyable and one of the keys to a fulfilling life. And you don’t have to wait to be fully healthy, or for the world to be a better place for you to have fun - you can choose to have fun right now.
If you are like I was and have lost sight of having fun, take some time to brainstorm and consider these questions.
What do you enjoy doing that you haven’t done in a long time? (That can be done safely)
What did you love to do as a kid that you might still enjoy today?
How can you build in more fun (even a little bit) into your daily routine?
Don’t worry, you don’t need to develop a list of 20 fun things to do, really you just need one or two fun activities and to make sure you do them! It’s not so much about the activity itself, but the feeling of joy you get from having fun. And its okay if a little bit of resistance comes up, sometimes you just need to keep going and move through that resistance in order to step into the present moment where life can be fun again.
So stop scrolling or checking email, and go enjoy yourself. Remember, you can always start small. Even ten minutes of fun can make a BIG difference in how you feel. This morning I put on some fun music, danced for 10 minutes and had a lot of fun. And you can have fun too!
