What is your relationship with gratitude? As a highly sensitive person with a tendency for anxiety, gratitude was definitely not the first thing I would used to think of when something went wrong. My mind would immediately think of what I wanted to change (even if there was nothing I could do about it). I like making changes and this has served me well in many aspects of my life. However, there is one huge area that all this changing can never serve and that is feeling content in the present moment. All of life takes place in the present moment, so if you cannot feel content in the moment, it is hard to be content in your life. The good news is that choosing gratitude reconnects you with the present moment, your intuition and your true nature of peace and clarity. It reminds you that not only is everything already ok, but that there are many overlooked blessings in your life to be thankful for. It allows you to be still and live from a place of “have” rather “have not.” This is truly priceless. When you encounter something in your day that is not ideal, consider first taking a moment to ask yourself not what is wrong and what needs fixed, but what is right? What is beautiful? What is lucky? If you are like me you’ll notice an immediate shift in your energy. You’ll feel relaxed and at ease. And it is from this relaxed place that you can then go about solving any problem you have. You may even realize that there is no problem to solve at all. What are you grateful for today?
